What is New Wild Media, Who is David Bourne and Why Should You Care?

I live life between two opposites: I love tech and I love nature.

New Wild Media brings these two together: I teach nature professionals great ways to promote their businesses and by extension, nature itself.

Why should you care? Because you are probably a lot like me. I want to have a great business and be outdoors as much as possible, but I hate marketing.

Why I Hate Marketing

  1. It’s Time Consuming: I want to be outside and take pictures, not sit by a computer trying to sell myself.
  2. It’s Too Pushy: Asking people to pay me to work for them or get some teeth pulled? Sorry, teeth, you lose.
  3. It’s Expensive: Pay for ads? I hate pushy advertising, so no, I don’t want to give my money away for that.

Here is the irony though: the main goal of New Wild Media is to help nature businesses connect with customers online. In other words, “online marketing”.

How can I hate marketing and teach online marketing? The answer is: life is too short to do anything that you hate. So I don’t do marketing. I tell stories instead.

How New Wild Media Came to Be: Life’s Big Question

“Life is short.” I learned that one pretty early on. My dad died when I was 10. He had three heart attacks, the last one when he was 42.

Then, when I was 20, one of my best buddies ended his own life. It was a big blow that kept me wondering for years, “what is all of this about?”.

After a while, I figured out one answer to the big questions. That answer was, “Make a difference.”

Find Out what You Love, Dedicate Your Life to It.

For the last few years, I’ve made promotional videos for non-profits and other worthy organizations via my company Bourne Media. It’s been great work that I’ve been lucky to have. And I was lucky to know I could choose it.

Life gives you choices and if you listen hard enough it gives you clues. My clues are “nature”, “technology” and “making a difference”.

But the clues often don’t make sense on their own. You have to work hard to make sense of them. I struggled to find the New Wild Media idea for years.

Then one day in the Florida Keys, a fishing guide asked me a simple question:

“How do I get more traffic to my website?”

And that was how New Wild Media was born. I realized I could make a bigger difference by helping others learn what I know.

There are thousands of nature pros out there who need a better knowledge of visual storytelling, photography skills, website and social media use.

They all have great nature stories and telling them well online will make a big difference.
